Enneagram Type 1 — The Reformer
Are you a perfectionist with a relentless inner critic, a deep need to do what's right, and a quiet fear that you're never quite good enough? You might be an Enneagram Type 1 — The Reformer.
Learn all about Type Ones—their core traits, growth paths, and what drives their pursuit of integrity.
What Is Enneagram Type 1? Core Traits of The Reformer (The Perfectionist)
Enneagram Type 1s — known as The Reformer or The Perfectionist — are principled, disciplined, and driven by a profound need to do what is right. They hold themselves to extraordinarily high standards and carry a persistent inner critic that points out every imperfection — in themselves, in others, and in the world around them.
Integrity, order, and moral purpose define how they move through life. At their best, Ones are ethical, responsible, and inspiring leaders for change. At their most stressed, they become rigid, critical, and deeply self-condemning.
Enneagram Type 1 Core Fear, Core Desire & Basic Belief
Core Fear: Being bad, corrupt, evil, or defective. Type 1s have a deep, often unconscious terror of being morally wrong or fundamentally flawed — which is exactly why they work so hard to be good.
Core Desire: To be good, to have integrity, and to live in alignment with their values. Ones don't just want to do good things — they need to feel like a good person at their core.
The Superego Message: "You are good and worthy only if you do what is right." This is the unconscious belief that drives much of a One's perfectionism — the quiet internal voice that says doing wrong makes them a bad person, not just someone who made a mistake.
